pastel
My pastels arise from pilgrimages to places of beauty. I usually make in situ sketches and collect odd digital images for color and shape reference. When I return to my studio, I then have access to hundreds of pastel sticks gathered over years. I browse through the in situ sketches and digital images, then set them aside and build a landscape in quiet reflection. Some of these visual moments—from France, Greece, Australia, New Mexico, Vermont, Kaua'i, and the Mendocino Coast—are below.
